East Gopura
The image shows the east-facing side of the eastern gopura (gate) of the inner enclosure of the Banteay Srei Temple, about 16 miles northeast of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Built with red sandstone, this gopura is ornate with the intricately carved door frame, lintel, and pediment.
The bas-relief on the pediment depicts the famous scene Shiva Tandava Nritya i.e., Shiva performing a wild and vigorous cosmic dance of creation, preservation and destruction. The lintel depicts Indra riding his vehicle Airavata.
