Nandi, the sacred bull of Shiva
The damaged statue shown in the image is that of a bull known as Nandi, Shiva’s vahana (mount) and the gatekeeper. This statue is in front of the eastern gopura built into the inner enclosure wall of the Banteay Srei Temple, about 16 miles northeast of Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The gopura depicts Shiva’s cosmic dance (Shiva Tandava Nritya).
