Aihole Durga Temple: Matsya Chakra (Fish Wheel) on the ceiling of the mukhamantapa (porch)

Matsya Chakra (Fish Wheel)
The Matsya Chakra is a wheel consisting of a hub at the center and 16 spokes of fish enclosed by a rim carved with beautiful patterns of flowers and leaves. The hub is a medallion carved with a lotus flower pattern.

This relief was likely inspired by the Matsya Chakra carving found on the mukhamantapa ceiling of Cave -3, the third of the four rock-cut caves of Badami.
