Surya, the Sun God
Mounted on the outer wall of the Somanathapura Keshava Temple, this beautifully carved sculptural relief likely depicts Surya, i.e., the sun, as a god. Note that the carvings of Surya with standard iconography depict him as a man with a lotus flower in each hand.
As you can see from the image, Surya’s face is round, and each of his hands holds a lotus flower. Notice the top part of the flower in his left hand is missing.
At the bottom are his consorts Saranyu and Chhaya, who are twin sisters.
