Seville Cathedral: Main Chapel – Virgen de la Sede (Virgin of the See)

Statue of Virgen de la Sede (Virgin of the See)
The statue of Mary holding Child Jesus in her arms, known as the Virgen de la Sede (Virgin of the See), is located just above the base and at the center of the Retablo Mayor (main altarpiece) at the main chapel. Carved in wood and coated with silver, this beautiful sculpture was made in the 13th century by an unknown sculptor.

La Virgen de la Sede is one of the titles of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and is specific to Seville. She is the patron saint of the Seville Cathedral, and is also responsible for its official name, Catedral de Santa María de la Sede.
