Ephesus: Mosaic on the floor of a Roman Terrace House

Advertisements

Mosaic on the floor of a Roman Terrace House
The image shows a beautiful mosaic paved on the floor of a Roman Terace House built on the hilly slope located in front of the Hadrian Temple on Curetes Street in Ephesus, Turkey. This area has three terraces housing six residential units. The restoration of these units is underway.

The Roman Terrace Houses were owned by rich Romans of that era. Even though the facades of the houses were ordinary compared to the other buildings in Ephesus, the interior decoration was exquisite. The walls of these houses are covered with paintings and frescoes and floors paved with mosaic (see the image).
