Statue of Pachacuti at Aguas Calientes
Also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, the town of Aguas Calientes is about 4 miles from the Machu Picchu archaeological site. This is where the visitors stay overnight and take the bus or walk to the Machu Picchu site.
The image shows the statue of Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui (1418 – 1471 CE), who was the ruler of the Inca Empire when the citadel of Machu Picchu was built.
Pachacuti is the ninth Sapa Inca (the equivalent of a divine king) and the most famous one. During his rule, the Inca kingdom became an empire. He was responsible for developing his capital Cuzco into a well-developed city, and many famous monuments, including the Sun Temple in Cuzco known as Qorikancha, are attributed to him.

What about the other male Indigenous shown in the picture who also has a statue. Who was he?
I don’t know. The tour guide didn’t mention anything about the statues below. I didn’t find anything in the literature either. Sorry about that. If I find out more, I’ll update the page.
