Located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu in the South Island, Queenstown is a small town that caters mainly to tourists. Besides Lake Wakatipu, there are several amazing attractions in and around Queenstown. The mountain range aptly named The Remarkables is situated near Queenstown and is visible from the city.
The main attractions within Fiordland National Park, Te Anau, Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound, are reachable by car or bus. Many tour bus operators operate daily trips to these attractions.
Queenstown is an hour’s flight from Auckland. Air New Zealand has frequent flights to Queenstown from Auckland.

Lake Wakatipu
Shaped like a reversed N, the Lake Wakatipu is the longest lake in New Zealand. But area-wise it is the third largest because of its narrow arms. It is in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. The water flows into the lake on the northern end from the Dart River and flows out of the lake from the Frankton Arm through the Kawarau River in the southern end.
Views from Bob’s Peak
You can get spectacular views of the lake from Bob’s Peak, which is 450 meters above Queenstown. To go there, you can hop into the Skyline Gondola, which is a cable car that runs from Queenstown to Bob’s Peak.
