Central tower on the uppermost terrace
The image shows a view of the central tower from the uppermost terrace (i.e., Bakan) of the Angkor Wat Temple located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This imposing structure is exactly at the center of Angkor Wat. The height of the tower is 700 feet from the ground.

It is believed that King Suryavarman II was buried under this tower. However, excavations by the French in 1934 under this tower have not discovered any human remains or significant funerary objects except two gold leaves. Experts believe that it was plundered or moved to another place when the temple was converted into a Buddhist monument.
