Prytaneion

A Prytaneion is an assembly of buildings and structures that were used to house the executive branch of the Greek Government. It is current equivalent of a city hall. The officials who administered the city met in these buildings. These building were typically constructed near the Agora. Prytaneion contained a hearth to hold the perpetual fire, which is a symbol of Goddess Hastia.
