The image shows a section of the Krishnayana bas-reliefs carved on the inner walls of the Vishnu Temple in Prambanan, about 11 miles northeast of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The Krishnayana bas-reliefs are based on the episodes from Krishna’s childhood and youth narrated in Hindu epics.

As you can see, there are two story panels (likely restored incorrectly because there is no continued carving between the two). The left panel depicts Balarama, Krishna’s stepbrother, carrying his signature weapon, a plow, and the right panel Krishna killing an unidentified rakshasa (demon).

Check the Prambanan Bas-Reliefs page to learn more about the bas-reliefs in the Prambanan temples.
