Statue of Shiva’s son Ganesha in the Shiva Temple
The statue of Shiva’s son Ganesha is housed in the inner sanctum of the Shiva Temple located on the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The inner sanctum has four chambers, each of which faces a cardinal direction and houses a statue. The Ganesha statue is in the west-facing chamber. With the elephant head and human body, Ganesha is a unique Hindu god widely worshiped in India and Southeast Asia.
The other three statues in the Shiva Temple are:
– Shiva facing east
– Durga as Mahishasuramardini facing north
– Agastya facing west
