Convent of Santa Domingo
The image shows the front portion of the Convent of Santo Domingo located in Cuzco, Peru. On the right side inside the convent, you can see a structure with three trapezoidal doors. This structure was part of Qorikancha, a magnificent temple built by the Incas before the arrival of the Spanish.
During the colonial period, the Spanish donated the area around Qorikancha to Dominicans, who built the Convent of Santo Domingo on top of Qorikancha. Because the Qorikancha structure was very strong, the Spanish were unable to destroy it completely. They left the remaining part of Qorikancha as is and built the convent on top of the ruins.
