This close-up highlights the remarkable craftsmanship of the circular wall of the Initiation Well. As seen, it is constructed from irregularly shaped granite blocks carefully fitted together to create a richly textured masonry surface. Set within the wall is a series of evenly spaced arched openings framed by precisely dressed granite blocks that contrast with the rougher surrounding stonework.
One of the most distinctive architectural features visible in this image is the row of projecting stone slabs that follows the spiral staircase. The shorter projections appear to align with the individual flights of steps, while the longer horizontal slabs coincide with the circular landings before the staircase continues its descent.
There are 15 short slabs between each pair of longer slabs, corresponding to the 15 steps in each flight. Repeated across the nine flights of the well, this pattern accounts for the staircase’s 135 steps. Whether serving a structural, decorative, or combined purpose, these repeating elements establish a subtle architectural rhythm that reinforces the spiral geometry of the well and reflects the meticulous attention to detail characteristic of its design.
