Quinta da Regaleira: Entry to the Tunnel Network from the Initiation Well

Beginning of the Tunnel Network
After descending the Initiation Well, visitors leave the mosaic floor at the bottom through an opening that leads directly into Quinta da Regaleira’s extensive underground tunnel network. This image shows the passage extending away from the well, with part of the gate at the mosaic floor visible at the far end.

From here, a maze of underground passages connects the Initiation Well with other sites of the estate, including the Unfinished Well (Poço Imperfeito), Waterfall Lake, and Eastern Grotto, before visitors eventually reach the designated exit. The larger underground network also extends to other parts of Quinta da Regaleira, although some of these passages are currently closed to visitors.
