Directional sign at a junction
After reaching the bottom of the Initiation Well, visitors continue their journey through a network of underground tunnels carved beneath Quinta da Regaleira. This image shows one of the tunnel junctions, where a directional sign points toward the Eastern Grotto (Gruta do Oriente) and the Waterfall Lake (Lago da Cascata).
These tunnels were conceived as an extension of the Initiation Well rather than merely as underground passageways. They lead visitors through a mysterious subterranean world before emerging elsewhere in the gardens.
