Chapter House – East section of the dome

East section of the dome
The image shows the east section of the elliptical dome of the Chapter House, an ornate hall attached to the southeast corner of the Seville Cathedral.

As you can see from the image, the interior decoration of the dome consists of several vertically stacked concentric panels. The radial segments that flow from the top intersect these panels and divide them into trapezoidal-shaped concave blocks.

The first panel (from the top) contains flowery patterns and the second panel contains figures of Giralda and vases with flowers. The blocks on the third panel alternate between the circular portraits of saints and stained glass windows. Just like the second panel, the figures in the center of the stained glass windows alternate between the Giralda and the vase with flowers. Surrounding each circular portrait is a rectangular decoration with the name of the saint inscribed in Latin at the top.

The portraits of the following four saints are visible in the image from left to right:
1. Santa Justa
2. San Pio
3. San Isidoro

As you can see, the bas-reliefs in the bottom-most panel alternate between portrait and landscape formats. Here is a description of the reliefs from left to right:

1. Jesus calming the storm – One of the miracles of Jesus
2. Mighty angel with legs like pillars of fire – Revelation 10:1 – The Angel and the Little Scroll
3. Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane – Jesus utters “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
4. Jesus expelling merchants from the temple
