Guadalquivir River and Seville Tower
Captured from the top of the middle tower of the Torre del Oro, the image shows the Canal de Alfonso XIII, an arm of the Guadalquivir River. In the near end is the Puente de Triana (a.k.a. Puente de Isabel II), an arched bridge built in the 19th century, which connects the city center with the Triana neighborhood located on the left banks of the river. The tall tower in the background is the Torre Sevilla (Seville Tower), which is located on La Cartuja, an island in the Guadalquivir River.
The Seville Tower is an office building with 40 floors that includes a shopping complex and a five star hotel. It stands like a sore thumb in the historic city of Seville, which prides itself architectural masterpieces, such as Seville Cathedral and Real Alcazar. Designed by the Argentine architect César Pelli – who also designed many world’s tallest skyscrapers, including Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpur – this elliptical-shaped building is the tallest in Andalusia.
