A view of Athens showing the Philopappu (Philopappos) monument
The image shows a beautiful view of the city of Athens from a vantage point on the Acropolis. The modern buildings are on the left and the Aegean Sea surrounding a mountain is at the far end.
The hill on the right with a lot of greenery is known as the Philopappos hill. At the top of this hill is a monument built to honor Gaius Julius Antiochus Epiphanes Philopappos, a Roman consul and senator who is believed to be a great benefactor of Athens. After Philopappos died in 116 CE, the Athenians built this monument to show their gratitude, and it was completed in 119 CE.
