Statues from the east pediment of the Temple of Zeus
The image shows the remnants of the statues that were part of the east pediment of Temple of Zeus located inside the Sanctuary of Olympia in Greece. These statues were restored from the fragments excavated near the Temple of Zeus, and are on display at the Olympia Archaeological Museum.

According to Pausanias, the Greek historian who visited the Temple of Zeus in the 2nd century BCE, the eastern pediment portrayed the gods and others observing the chariot race that was about to begin between Oenomaos and Pelops. Oenomaos was the king of Pisa and Pelops was a suitor of Hippodameia, the daughter of Oenomaos.

Pausanias also identified the statues. The headless statue on the right- which is in the middle of the pediment – was identified as Zeus, who according to Pausanias was standing in the middle of the pediment and was observing the race.
