Nandi Shrine
The courtyard of the Halebidu Hoysaleswara Temple has two Nandi Shrines, each facing a garbhagriha (inner sanctum). The shrine shown in the image is in front of the north garbhagriha (a.k.a. Hoysaleswara Garbhagriha)

The approach to the Nandi statue is through a stone staircase flanked on either side by an identical mini shrine. Supporting the stone roof are the beautifully carved stone pillars. Inside the mantapa, there is a circumambulation path (pradakshina patha) for devotees to go around the Nandi statue.

Carved out of a single rock, this magnificent statue of Nandi is a superb work of art with great attention paid to detail. As you can see, it has retained its original polish.
