The General Assembly Room (Sala das Assembleias Gerais)
Located on the first floor of Palácio da Bolsa in Porto, Portugal, the Sala das Assembleias Gerais (General Assembly Room) is where the Associação Comercial do Porto holds two general assemblies a year.

The image shows a partial view of the room, which appears to be decorated with finely carved wood but is, according to the official website, “an immense optical illusion” created with plaster made to resemble wood.

At the center of the ceiling, a beautiful basket-shaped chandelier hangs from an ornamental pendant. At the lower left, a bronze plaque dated 1889 (MDCCCLXXXIX) shows the arms of the Associação Comercial do Porto, beneath a relief inscribed “Labor et libertas urgent nos,” roughly “Work and liberty urge us on.”

The room was designed by Tomás Soller between 1879 and 1883 and modified by José de Macedo Araújo Júnior between 1883 and 1890. The ceiling was restored in 2014, according to the palace website.
