Palácio da Bolsa: The President’s Room (Sala do Presidente)

Richly decorated interior with dark gilded wood paneling, a painted ceiling, a ploughing scene on the wall and a patterned parquet floor of the President's Room at Palácio da Bolsa in Porto, Portugal

President’s Room
Located on the first floor of Palácio da Bolsa in Porto, Portugal, this image shows a partial view of the richly decorated President’s Room.

As you can see, the walls and ceiling are decorated with paintings and dark gilded wood paneling. The floor is parquet (small pieces of wood fitted into geometric patterns) made of exotic woods, which, according to the palace, come from Brazil and Africa.

The oil paintings, attributed to João Marques de Oliveira (1890), depict, according to the palace, the traditional occupations of Roman civilization, including ploughing and spinning. Gilded frames of laurel and ribbons surround the paintings.
