Nandi, the sacred bull of Shiva
This beautiful statue of Nandi, Shiva’s vahana (mount) and the gatekeeper, is in the inner chamber of the temple dedicated to Nandi in Prambanan, a large complex of Hindu temples located about 11 miles northeast of Yogyakarta in Indonesia. The temple for Shiva’s vehicle Nandi is in front of the Shiva Temple.

The Nandi statue is situated at the center of the inner chamber. Standing on the either side of Nandi are:
– Statue of Dewa Surya (Sun God) on the left
– Statue of Dewa Chandra (Moon God) on the right

These three statues symbolize the constant watch of Shiva by Nandi, and the celestial objects, Sun and Moon.
