Mercury Pond in front of the Gothic Palace
The Mercury pond owes its name to statue of goddess Mercury, installed on the fountain in the middle of the pond. It is a the bronze statue cast by Bartolomé Morel in 1575 based on the design by Diego de Pesquera.
The Mercury pond gets water from a Roman-era aqueduct, modified by the Almohads to supply water to the palaces and the gardens.
