Iron-and-glass dome
The octagonal iron-and-glass dome covers the courtyard of the Hall of Nations (Pátio das Nações) in Palácio da Bolsa, Porto, Portugal. Note: The dome appears asymmetrical only because the photo was taken from off-center.
As you can see, the design is a mesmerizing geometrical pattern. At the center is a dark circle, surrounded by four circular bands crossed by 16 radiating beams. Around it run concentric octagonal bands, intersected by ribs of ironwork. The outermost band and some of the bands near the center are decorated with geometrical motifs.
The hall was originally an open courtyard, and the iron-and-glass dome was added to cover it after 1880. The dome is attributed to architect Tomás Soller.
