Painted Coats of Arms
Looking up into a corner of the Hall of Nations (Pátio das Nações) at Palácio da Bolsa in Porto, Potugal.

Gilded panels frame painted coats of arms: a red shield with a white cross and stars among palm branches, a crowned shield held by two lions, and portions of two black eagles at the top corners. Between them, a laurel-wreathed cartouche reads “2 de Agosto de 1834” (2 August 1834), the date the Commercial Court was established in Porto.

Below it, two narrow panels show painted trophies of a flag, a cogwheel and tools on one side, and a sword, a sheaf and other emblems on the other, each with laurel branches.

To its left, the Swiss coat of arms shows a white cross with 22 stars, one for each canton, with clasped hands before a sun above crossed palm branches.
