Portico in the middle section of the Plaza de España
The Plaza de España is one of the iconic landmarks of Seville and a popular tourist attraction. It is a grand semi-circular building with a canal in front.
Built in 1928 to showcase Andalusia in the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929, the Plaza de España reflects the multi-cultural roots of Andalusia with its architecture and decoration.
The image shows the porch in the middle section of the building. As you can see, the structure is a blend of different architectural styles. Notice the ceiling and the columns. Carved with repetitive patterns of hexagon shapes and placed in a grid-like fashion, the paneled ceiling, known as Alfarje, belongs to the Neo-Mudéjar style. The columns, which appeared to be of Greek Ionic Order, belong to the Renaissance style.
