Aedicule of Nossa Senhora da Silva
This is the aedicule (a framed niche housing a statue) facing west in the right transept, between the sanctuary and St. Anne’s chapel.
At the center is the gilded statue of Nossa Senhora da Silva (Our Lady of Silva), a specific 15th–16th century devotional image. Note that it is distinct from Nossa Senhora da Vandoma, the cathedral’s patroness, enthroned in the left transept, although both share the same generic “Virgin and Christ Child” iconographic type.
Flanking the left side of the central statue is São Brás (Saint Blaise), identified by the plaque reading “S. BRAZ” at its base. As seen, São Brás carries a mitre and crozier, consistent with his standard iconography as a 4th-century bishop of Sebaste and martyr.
There is also a statue of a saint on the right flank, without an identification plaque. As seen in the image, he is carrying a book in his left hand.
